Fast Cap & Archway Fast Cap

Fast Caps and Bullnose Fast Caps are designed to finish doorways, kneewalls, wall ends and closet openings. Fast Caps can be used with 2 X 4's or metal studs. Archway Fast Cap for 1/2" drywall is available in a special 18' length that allows you to finish a full arched doorway in a single piece. See below.

General Installation

Archway Fast Caps do not require any special backing behind the bead. Just cut your drywall to the desired arch, and staple both mud legs to the drywall with 1/2" divergent staples. Mud as usual. For straight Fast Cap, make sure you adhere the Fast Cap to the stud. Liberally apply 2 beads of drywall stud adhesive or equivalent to the back of the bead as shown above and press into the wall. Staple both mud legs with 1/2" divergent staples. Mud as usual. For special details see below. For mitering corners on 3/4" R. Bullnose Fast Cap, see our 3/4" Miter Marker Instructions.

Detail 1

For a sprung arch, finish as shown above and caulk the butt joint.

Detail 2

Be sure there is sufficient backing material on all straight runs. Adhere Fast Cap to backing and caulk or float in the butt joints.

Detail 3

For outside corners, snip the mud legs back as shown. Slightly warm part (Use a lighter or light bulb on the inside of the part) and bend over a definitive edge. For inside corners, meet 2 pieces as shown and caulk the butt joint.

Detail 4

For a rounded archway, be sure to extend Archway Fast Cap beyond the arch onto the straight where there is sufficient backing material. Adhere both Archway Fast Cap and Regular Fast Cap to the backing.
