What Happens When 8 Drywall Pros Take on 1 House Together?

Commercial drywall work is always a team sport. But many residential drywall pros prefer to work alone or in pairs, tackling whole houses by themselves. So, we wondered: what happens when you take eight of those independently operating drywall finishers, plop them all into one house to collaborate on and give them endless boxes of Trim-Tex beads and accessories? No, this isn’t the setup to a joke — we really did this!

In May 2024, this house — located in Surrey, British Columbia — went from being a pretty standard single-family home to a place with the cleanest, smoothest drywall and the most crisp, eye-catching corners you can get. There were corners outfitted with Chamfer Bead and cathedral ceilings lined with Fast Edge® Roll everywhere you looked. And, with eight finishers working side-by-side, they got it done in no time flat.

Read on to meet all the pro finishers working on this house and see how this house went from average to exceptional with nothing more than excellent drywall work!

Shawn Ramsden | BrollysDad Construction | @brollysdadconstruction

Tell me a little bit about this project.

Shawn Ramsden: This is a 30,000-board-foot project. We've been doing more and more collaborations throughout the year last year, and this was kind of like the real big one. Getting the team together was super easy. We all like each other. We all get along. We chose Trim-Tex because they're the Cadillac. We never have any issues with them at all. You guys are super easy to deal with. The range of products that you have that are reliable is really attractive. And as the finisher, it's way easier to use.

What was your favorite part of this project?

Shawn: It just kind of brings the family a little closer together, for sure. And then all the different techniques that are on site. But I think we basically have every technique on site. So, being able to see that, it's pretty cool. You get to pick apart maybe what you’ll keep, what's just interesting to see, what to work on. It's a good project.

What’s your favorite Trim-Tex product?

Shawn: Probably Shadow Bead. I like the aesthetics of it.

Kaïla & Allison Gilbert | Gilbert Taping | @gilberttaping

What was your favorite part of this project?

Allison: I'd say learning from other workers, just seeing how others do their stuff and getting a few tips and techniques that we don't usually use and getting to share with them how we do things as well.

Kaïla: I would say being able to learn different techniques from other finishers. It's like super awesome to see it all come together. And yeah, being able to try different things, different methods that other people are using, but that I'm not necessarily used to.

What’s your favorite Trim-Tex product?

Kaïla: I would say the Chamfer. Oh, I mean, I guess now it would be the Fast Edge® Paper bead. Yeah. It's easy to put on. It takes, like, way less mud than half of the beads out there, and it just looks great.

Allison: My favorite would be the Fast Edge Paper. Why? Because it saves a lot of time with mudding, a lot of materials, and it looks really good and crisp.

Chad Hesser | Hesser Drywall | @hesser_drywall

What was your favorite part of this project?

Chad: Well, I've never got to work with Chamfer Bead. That's kind of been my highlight so far, other than just getting to work with everybody that's here. I got to know a couple new people. So, it's been just been fun socializing and working with some different products that I haven't worked with yet.

What’s your favorite Trim-Tex product?

Chad: Probably the Jumbo Bead. For commercial applications, all the hanging is a little rough, so we gotta have an extra-wide leg flange. Actually, now, Fast Edge Paper, it's kind of grown on me pretty well — it just works so much easier and better.

If you were talking to someone who knows nothing about Trim-Tex, what would you say?

Chad: Basically you just have to try it out. I mean, it's the versatility of the products, durability. Just how easy they are to use. Inexpensive. First and foremost, that's what I've used for the last 15 years. So, to me, it's just hard to find anything that's better or even more efficient. It’s just a better product altogether.

Steph Abbott | Teek Interiors | @teek_interiors

What was your favorite part of this project?

It's nice to get to know the companies more one-on-one. Working with them is one thing, but actually getting to spend quality time is another.

What’s your favorite Trim-Tex product?

Steph: My favorite product by Trim-Tex is the Fast Edge bead. Products I've used in the past, their competition, usually takes a lot more mud to fill. And you also get air under your paper. I've never once, since starting to work with Trim-Tex, got a single bubble, so that speaks for itself.

If you were talking to a finisher that has no idea what Trim-Tex was, what would you say?

Steph: That they're missing out. Once you use it, you're not going to go back to anything else.

Kameron Brown | @itsyamankam

What was your favorite part of this project?

Kameron: My favorite part is getting to work with everyone. I've had so much fun this week. We've been running around the jobsite, singing together, dancing together. It's just been a lot of fun getting to collaborate with all these people that I've known just through social media for so long, and getting to see them in person and work together has been awesome.

What’s your favorite Trim-Tex product?

Kameron: Buttboard. I think that's the best product, in my opinion. It saves us from having to feather butt joints out as wide and also saves us mud when it comes to finishing up.

Wesley McPeek | @sensei_wess

What’s your favorite Trim-Tex product?

Wesley: Favorite Trim-Tex product would probably be the Tear Away. Chamfer, this is my first time using it. And it was a little different, but I like that it really pronounces the corners, and it's an easy finish. Putting it on was a little more challenging with the angles that you have to cut and everything, but in the end, it turns out looking very well.

If you were talking to someone who knows nothing about Trim-Tex, what would you say?

Wesley: I'd tell them that it’s a good product. It makes everything look a lot cleaner than your paper-faced metal bead and all that. I think that the plastic Trim-Tex is easier to coat for sure. You're not ripping paper when you're trying to carry it or anything, and it always comes out 10 times smoother.

Danny Moody | @drmoody22

What was your favorite part of this project?

Danny: My favorite part about the Surrey project is getting to know everybody. You see them online, and you, you don't really know them, but getting to know them in person is 20 times better than online.

What’s your favorite Trim-Tex product?

Danny: My favorite corner bead from Trim-Tex is definitely the Chamfer. It looks clean and very tight … The very first [job I used Chamfer Bead] on was a flip house that me and my dad did together, and we wanted something to pop. You know, everybody does 90s, and for goodness sakes, round metal — my opinion is, that needs to be left in the ’90s. So, we picked Chamfer because it's different. And, I mean, it popped great. We did the windows just like this, the uprights. Chamfer, I think, it makes it pop — it looks high-end with just drywall.
