Fast Edge Paper is a 90-degree corner bead from Trim-Tex, consisting of an all-vinyl core covered with smooth, laminated paper. That vinyl core is lined with something we call mud locks: protruding grooves that grip into joint compound to provide a higher level of bond strength. Meanwhile, the laminated paper’s function is to grant the bead a second layer of attachment — this time to the drywall itself — as well as help the corner look smooth and flat once finished.

There are a few ways you can install Fast Edge Paper, from blading mud directly onto the corner with a joint knife or hawk to using it alongside an applicator tool like a MudRunner. None of these methods are any worse than the other — it all comes down to your own personal preference.
However, there is one method that, for most drywall finishers, would likely be the fastest: running it through a hopper. Beyond pure speed, in this technique, you’re taking the guesswork out of the equation and simply coating the entire bead, front and back, with the same amount of mud, every time.

Large is the initial width we offered upon launch, and is still the most versatile option, especially if your framing isn’t perfect. Medium Fast Edge Paper is a newer choice, and with a 13% smaller surface area, it offers all the benefits of this paper-covered corner bead in a more cost-effective form. In terms of length, Medium and Large Fast Edge Paper are both available in four lengths, from eight- to 12-feet long.

Yes, Fast Edge Paper is designed with a sharp nose that can act as a hinge, allowing you to bend it to suit corners that may be sharper or more obtuse than your standard 90 degrees. First off, you should know that a bit of wavy paper is purely a cosmetic issue; it won’t affect your ability to achieve a flawless finish in the end. Secondly, there is an easy way to fix it if you want to — use a roller. We do offer a mud head for our Pro Series Quad Roller specifically designed for finishing Fast Edge Paper (pictured above). Its raised ends will quickly flatten any waves in the paper, in addition to applying an even amount of pressure for easier finishing.
