Trim-Tex’s latest innovation, Fast Edge® Roll, was designed to tackle just about any angle, anywhere — sharp or obtuse, inside or outside. But, obviously, like any other rolled corner bead, 99% of drywall finishers are going to use it to complement their other accessories, like their 90-degree corner beads and paper tape, not replace all of them. We’ve heard the question from many of our social media followers: why would I spend money on your new rolled corner bead when I can get hundreds of feet of cheap paper tape? So, let’s dig in! Here’s when and where to use Fast Edge Roll instead of paper tape.

Where to Use Paper Tape
Paper tape is obviously a mainstay for drywall finishers for good reasons. It’s flexible, it’s got a ton of uses and you can spend a small amount of money to get hundreds of feet of it. Especially if you’re on a job with thousands of square feet to finish, paper tape (or mesh tape, if that’s your style) is never going to go out of style.
Paper tape, obviously, will go on any seams and butt joints between sheets of drywall, as well as nearly all 90-degree inside corners. (Although, for high-traffic areas, we may recommend you opt for an inside corner bead instead for extra protection.) The thinness of the tape makes it easier to get a flat finish, and using a tool like an inside corner trowel makes it even easier, even if it won’t add much in the way of defense.
It's when we get into off-angle inside corners that we start to see big problems with paper tape…
